Although there are many types of accommodations you can choose from when visiting Maui, Maui condos offer a unique equilibrium of benefits to other vacation rentals and lodgings.

Bed-and-breakfast permits require the owner to live in the home in which the rental units are provided...A 2005 county-sponsored study estimated there are as many as 800 illegal transient vacation rentals in Maui County."

 

Further concerns revolve around the issue of affordable rents for local residents as the past permissiveness towards bed and breakfasts has helped to drive up the residential rents by taking many houses out of the supply side. Although many bed and breakfasts are legitimate and many are quite beautiful  and even luxurious, you should ask the owner if they are permitted and ask to see their permits before staying in such an accommodation.

Most Maui Condos allow more people per condo unit and are located closer to town centers where shopping is considerably more affordable than in the luxury shops. Maui condos are also generally closer to a wider range of restaurants, activities and boutique shops that are limited in number in hotel areas. Most Maui condos also have pools that are less crowded than hotel pools (hotels usually offer local residents daily pool passes). Some Maui condos also have on site, tennis, shuffle board and barbecue ranges.

 

Maui is indeed a great place of camping. In cabins at Wainapanapa or in tents at Kipahulu you can enjoy the great outdoors without hiking deep into the wilderness. No wild animals will eat your food and you'll lounge around great clear water pools and saltwater beaches. Unless you are prepared for a week or more of camping with no laundry, hot showers or shopping, you can consider renting a Maui Condo on the front and back side of your camping trip for that day or two of freshening up before the long flight home.
